About this role
This role oversees the daily back of house (BOH) operations for all catering events on the Johnson & Wales University campus. The Catering Chef Supervisor ensures the successful execution of catering menus while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and sanitation.
Day-to-day responsibilities include supervising kitchen setup and breakdown for events, producing catering food, and following standardized recipes and procedures. The supervisor adjusts recipes and food preparation according to guest requests, maintains food safety and operational logs, and operates assigned kitchen equipment including cleaning and sanitizing.
Working closely with assistant cooks and other department members, this role manages the full execution of events from start to finish. The supervisor also loads and unloads catering vehicles, reconciles Banquet Event Orders from the university's events department, and monitors the departmental budget.
This position offers the opportunity to supervise and develop department staff, including student employees, facilitating professional growth and enhancing their academic and professional development. The role requires a valid U.S. driver's license and the ability to work days, evenings, and weekends.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
- Experience cooking in a commercial setting or other related experience
- Obtain and maintain food safety managers certification approved by conference for food protection
- Valid U.S. driver's license
- Ability to work days, evenings, and weekends
- Must live or relocate to within daily commuting distance of the Providence Campus location upon hire
Responsibilities

- Follows standardized recipes and procedures to cook food, set up and stock food stations, and garnish food for display
- Maintains food safety and operational logs, and utilizes appropriate cleaning procedures per university policy and health code regulations
- Adjusts recipes and food preparation according to guest requests and specifications
- Manages and aids in the full execution of all events including setup and breakdown
- Supervises and develops department staff, managing performance against job accountabilities and university policies
- Reconciles all Banquet Event Orders received from the university's events department and monitors the departmental budget
