About this role
Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Food Service Worker to join the Food Services team at Vancouver General Hospital. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and able to work both independently and in a team setting. They will have a strong ethic in creating a safe and respectful environment for staff, patients, residents, families, and visitors.
Report to the Coordinator and/or Manager, Food Services, and carry out duties according to Food Safe protocols and quality standards. Perform tasks including portioning and serving meals, assisting with food production by washing and peeling vegetables and fruit. Prepare coffee/tea, toast, portion desserts, assemble sandwiches and salads, and check patient/resident meals for dietary accuracy.
Strip wagons/trays, wash dishes and pots, clean food wagons, kitchen equipment, fridges, storage areas, tables, and counters. Sweep and damp mop floors, remove garbage, deliver wagons/trays to patient/resident units. Retrieve and store food items, replenish food, beverage, and paper supplies.

Requirements
- Grade 10 plus one year’s recent, related experience or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Food Safe Certificate Level 1
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to deal with others effectively
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
- Ability to organize work
- Ability to operate related equipment
Responsibilities
