About this role

This role allows you to perform the essential functions of kitchen staff positions on an as-needed basis. You will be a flexible substitute, stepping in to cover various duties across school food service operations. Opaa! Food Management operates in eight states in the Midwest, serving students and schools.

Daily tasks include assisting with set-up of serving lines and ensuring all food is held at required temperatures. You will help prepare foods according to menu plans and Opaa! recipes, using slicers, mixers, and grinders with proper certification. Keeping work areas neat, clean, and organized is essential.

The role emphasizes strict compliance with menu plans and meal patterns under HHFKA and CACFP regulations. You will follow HACCP processes, record temperatures, and maintain daily production records. Safety rules outlined in Opaa’s Safety Procedure Manual must be obeyed.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain proper certification to operate kitchen equipment such as slicers, mixers, and grinders.
  • Knowledge of food safety and HACCP procedures.
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes and meal patterns (HHFKA/CACFP).
  • Capability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality; ability to notify supervisor 24 hours in advance for shift absences.
  • Willingness to complete required yearly continued training hours and attend meetings/in-services.
  • Basic math skills for inventory, tray counts, and cash handling.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with set-up of serving lines daily and ensure that all food is held at the required temperature.
  • Assist in the preparation of foods in accordance with the menu plan and Opaa! recipes.
  • Operate slicers, mixers, grinders, and other equipment with proper certification.
  • Keep work areas neat, clean, and organized; clean kitchen and cafeteria areas including equipment and dishes.
  • Follow HACCP processes and procedures, recording temperatures of all hot and cold food.
  • Handle customer monies at service time, operate cash register or POS system, and ensure only reimbursable meals are allowed.
  • Notify DNS 24 hours in advance if unable to cover an assigned shift; in emergencies, notify as soon as possible.
